1872 Conrad Ferdinand Hausmann founded the Hecht Pharmacy in St. Gallen Switzerland
_In 1872 the pharmacist Conrad Ferdinand Hausmann founded a pharmacy in St. Gallen, Switzerland. His interest for the development of pharmaceutical preparations led to the production of infusion preparations as well as the development of pharmaceutical specialities.
1952 Foundation of Hausmann Laboratories Inc. as a production company for Hospital Supplies and iron supplementation products
_In 1952, these activities led to the foundation of the Hausmann Laboratories Inc. in St. Gallen, at the location where Vifor (International) Inc. is still located today. In the 1970s, Iron R&D activities of the company were extended with special focus on iron replacement therapy.
1983 Acquisition by GALENICA Holding Inc.
_In 1983, the Hausmann Laboratories Inc. were acquired by the Galenica Holding Inc. in Bern, the number one wholesaler in the Swiss medical-logistics market.
1991 Formation of Vifor (International) Inc.
_In 1991, the activities in the fields of infusion preparations / hospital supply within the Galenica Holding was sold to B. Braun Melsungen Inc. whereas the activities in the field of pharmaceutical specialties of the former Hausmann Laboratories Inc. was retained and led to the foundation of Vifor (International) Inc.
1991 - 2000 Vifor (International) Inc.: years of steady expansion
_Thanks to the efforts of the St. Gallen team, Vifor (International) Inc. evolved into a company with a steady growth rate. This development coupled with the company 's good prospects were so encouraging that plans were proposed to establish a new industrial centre. After successful negotiations with B. Braun, the «Rechen» complex was purchased. Several years after Galenica had sold its St. Gallen activities, Vifor (International) Inc. once again had ownership of its premises. This resounding success is thanks to excellent work on the part of the entire workforce, whose numbers have increased from 30 loyal members of staff to over 130 specialists.
2000 FDA PREApproval of Venofer®
_In recent years not only the ownership of the «Rechen» complex has changed several times; the conditions under which pharmaceutical and galenic products are manufactured have also undergone a major evolution. In autumn 2000 Vifor (International) Inc. showed compliance with the legal requirements in the United States when Venofer® successfully passed a preapproval inspection by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
2004 Vifor (International) Inc. announces its next generation iron product VIT-45
