As part of its strategy to establish its presence in key European markets, Galenica Ltd. will take 51% of Sweden’s Renapharma, their Nordic partner based in Uppsala. Renapharma specialises in the sale of medicines for iron deficiency therapy. The company has gained a leading market position in Scandinavia within a few years. Renapharma has in-depth knowledge of the market and an outstanding network of specialists. Galenica wants to use these core competencies to further expand the market for its iron-based medicines in Northern Europe, and in particular for Ferinject®.

Renapharma was founded in the year 2000 by Prof. Bo G. Danielson, the former head of Nephrology at the University Hospital in Uppsala, Sweden. The company specialises in the sale of medicines for iron deficiency therapy, particularly in indication groups for nephrology, gastroenterology and internal medicine. Within a few years, Renapharma has become a leader in Scandinavia in the area of nephrology. Since its founding, Renapharma has been a partner of Vifor Pharma for the sale of Venofer®. In the second half of 2008, it is planned to also bring Ferinject® to the Scandinavian market, especially Sweden, Denmark and Finland, whereas Norway and Iceland will follow later.

Renapharma will be integrated into Galenica's Pharma Division. Bo G. Danielson will hold the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors to ensure continuity within the company and vis-à-vis market partners.
